Their story
Susannah Dill was born around 1812, according to the family chronology. She was a daughter of Rev. Richard Dill and Grace Cochrane and married William Macky, a farmer.[1,2]
After William disappeared on the Victorian goldfields in the early 1850s, Susannah raised their five children in Ireland. A 1913 obituary of their son credits her with maintaining the household with help from a small annual allowance from the Widows’ Fund of the Irish Presbyterian Church, received after her father’s death.[2]
The obituary describes three sons and two daughters. It names the sons as Rev. William Marcus Dill Macky, Rev. Richard Dill Macky and Dr. James Dill Macky, later associated with Sydney, Byron Bay and Ulmarra in New South Wales, respectively. A family history identifies the daughters as Grace Macky, born at Lisfannan on 26 September 1845, and Dorcas Macky, born at Derry on 3 January 1851.[1,2,3]
The compiled family record dates Susannah’s death to 28 October 1888.[4]
