Family profile
Rev. William Marcus Dill Macky was born at Lisfannan, County Donegal, Ireland, on 8 June 1849, the son of William Macky and Susannah Dill. He trained for the Presbyterian ministry, was ordained in 1876 and married Ellen Elizabeth Morwood in 1881.[1,3]
He reached Sydney in December 1886 and became minister of Scots Church. He also taught theology, served as a military chaplain and helped establish Scots College.[3]
Dill Macky was also a prominent anti-Catholic campaigner. He helped form the Australian Protestant Defence Association in 1901 and edited its newspaper, the Watchman. A dispute with students over biblical scholarship preceded his resignation from teaching in 1907.[3]
He died at Neutral Bay, Sydney, in 1913 and was buried at Rookwood.[3]
