Mary Elizabeth “Libbie” Carpenter was born in Providence on 18 October 1894. Her first husband, Henry L. Stevens, was reported killed in aviation service in France in 1918.
In 1920, she married John Doane Wicks. They had five children, including Marjorie. John died in the mid-air collision near Washington in 1949.
