The life of Mary Mitchell Macky
Biography
Mary Mitchell was living at Limefield, Moville, when she married James Macky on November 28, 1872. The ceremony took place at St Columb's in the parish of Lower Moville, County Donegal, in northwestern Ireland, under the rites of the Church of Ireland. The register names her father as Robert Mitchell and records both bride and groom as of full age. Mary signed the marriage entry in her own name.
The family subsequently lived at Gallagh. On January 30, 1879 Mary gave birth there to William George. His father registered the birth the following month; the entry records Mary under her maiden surname, Mitchell, and describes James as a farmer. The register evidence for George Duncan's birth also names Mary as his mother.
A later memorial records Mary Mitchell Macky at Field of Mars Cemetery in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The burial is a probable identification.
