The life of Eunice Jones Mirick
From Weston to the Rutland hills
Eunice Jones was still a girl when her family divided. Around 1748 her father, James Jones, left Massachusetts for North Carolina with her brother James. He did not return. Eunice remained part of the Massachusetts family. On October 17, 1754, she married Caleb Mirick in Weston, west of Boston in Massachusetts.
Born in Weston on September 15, 1735, she was the daughter of James and Abigail Garfield Jones. Her marriage took her into the Mirick household in the Rutland–Princeton area in the hills of central Massachusetts. The family genealogy begins its list of her children with Joseph, born December 3, 1755, and dead the following day. Later children included Samuel, Eunice, Sally, Lucinda, Polly, Fidelia and Caleb.
Her children’s births extended into the early 1770s. During those years the district acquired a meetinghouse on land offered by her husband and John Mirick, and its first town pound occupied Caleb’s barn.
She lived to see her daughter Eunice marry Ephraim Russell in 1792. She died on November 3, 1794, according to Princeton’s published vital records; the Jones genealogy instead gives 1793.
