The life of Jacques Guyon
Biography
In April 1583, Jacques Guyon and Marie Huet made a reciprocal arrangement for whichever spouse survived the other. The act is the earliest trace of their marriage identified in the PRÉFEN account of the family. By the time their daughter Marie was baptized in 1588, they were living at Tourouvre, in the Perche countryside of northern France. Their son Jean was baptized there four years later.
Jacques owned a house in the town and was listed among its notables in November 1604. Fichier Origine describes him as a royal surveyor. His son Jean became a master mason and married Mathurine Robin at Mortagne-au-Perche, in the same region, in 1615, establishing a household of his own.
Jacques had died by late 1623. Marie survived him and was buried at Mortagne in 1626. Both deaths came before Jean's migration to New France in 1634. The family's Canadian history therefore began after Jacques's lifetime; his own surviving record belongs to the towns and legal documents of the Perche.
