Their story
Elizabeth Tilley Howland was baptized at Henlow, Bedfordshire, on 30 August 1607. She sailed to Plymouth on the Mayflower in 1620 with her parents, John Tilley and Joan Hurst Rogers Tilley. Both parents died during the first winter.[3]
She married John Howland in the early 1620s. They had ten children, including Desire Howland, and lived first in Plymouth, later at Duxbury and then on a farm at Rocky Nook, in present-day Kingston, Massachusetts.[1,4]
After John’s death in 1673, Elizabeth administered his estate. She later lived with their daughter Lydia Howland Browne at Swansea. Her will, dated 17 December 1686, distributed books, bedding and household goods and asked her children to live in peace with one another. Elizabeth died at Swansea on 21 December 1687.[3,4,5]
