The life of Joseph Philbrick
Biography
Joseph Philbrick was born on October 1, 1663, a son of James Philbrick and Ann Roberts. He married Tryphena Marston, and their household belonged to the family network at Hampton on the New Hampshire coast later recorded in Rye's history.
Their first recorded son, Joseph, was born in December 1686 and died in February 1687. A second Joseph followed in 1688. The family continued to grow through the birth of Elizabeth in 1706, with Joses born in 1703. The children's adult lives spread into neighboring communities: Ephraim became a blacksmith at Exeter, while Joses remained connected with Rye.
Joseph survived Tryphena, who died in 1729, by approximately twenty-six years. He also outlived his son Ephraim, whose death is recorded in 1747. Joseph died on November 17, 1755 at ninety-two. The family record thus follows him from the earliest loss in his own young household into an exceptionally long old age.
