The life of Jane Batchelder Lamprey

Text size

Biography

Jane Batchelder grew up in the family of Nathaniel Batchelder and Deborah Smith at Hampton, on the coast of present-day New Hampshire. Her mother died in March 1676, while Jane was a young child. Nathaniel married again later that year, bringing Mary Carter Wyman into the household.

Jane married Benjamin Lamprey on November 10, 1687. Their family record begins with the birth of Benjamin the following October and includes Elizabeth, born in 1703, who later married Jonathan Moulton. The Lamprey household’s recorded births continue through Morris in 1711, although uncertainty about Benjamin’s later marriage prevents securely assigning every child to Jane.

Jane's life joined two large Hampton families. The surviving records place her first among the children of a town constable and selectman, then within a household whose sons and daughters married into the Palmer, Batchelder, and Moulton families.

The burial listing associates Jane Batchelder Lamprey with Pine Grove Cemetery, Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States.
