The life of Joses Philbrick

Biography

Joses Philbrick was born on November 5, 1703, a son of Joseph Philbrick and Tryphena Marston. He married Abigail Locke in 1727 and established a household in the Hampton–Rye area on the New Hampshire coast. Their children included Sarah, born in 1732, as well as sons and daughters whose adult homes extended beyond Rye.

Joses participated in local government. Rye's town history lists him among the selectmen elected in 1749 and again in 1754. His service belongs to the period when the community was managing its own affairs as a distinct parish, and places him among the men entrusted with that work.

He died on March 24, 1757, in his fifty-fourth year. His youngest recorded son, Jonathan, was still a child; Abigail survived him for another twenty-six years.

The burial listing associates Joses Philbrick with Rye Central Cemetery, Rye, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States.
