The life of Herline / Ellen / Adeline Gagnon
Biography
Herline Gagnon, remembered in family records as Ellen and also as Adeline, was born around 1839 according to the working family chronology. That reconstruction identifies her parents as Charles Gagnon and Cécile Bergeron. She married Eugene, or Ugane, Bourassa, joining a family whose records connect the Great Lakes region with the Potawatomi community in Kansas.
Their daughter Delilah was born at Maple Hill, near Topeka in northeastern Kansas, on December 1, 1868. Delilah's later family account places her move to the community now called Beaverville, in eastern Illinois near the Indiana border, at about four years old.
Ellen's identity also survives in the family's allotment research, where she is associated with the reference CP-885. Together with her parents, husband and daughter, it helps connect the differently recorded forms of her name. The accepted family record places her death in 1900.
