René-Clément Bourassa is recorded in François Marchi's compilation as a son of René Bourassa and Catherine Leriger. It reports his baptism at La Prairie, across the St. Lawrence River from Montréal in present-day Québec, Canada, on September 17, 1722, citing Tanguay, volume 2, page 407.
The distinction between two sons named René is essential. The father's family listing separates René-Clément, born to Catherine Leriger, from an older René born in 1718 to Agnès Gagné. They belong to different maternal households within the same family.
The family genealogy gives his parents’ fuller names as René Bourassa dit La Ronde and Marie-Catherine Leriger de La Plante.
