The life of Colette Cavelier

Text size

Biography

Colette Cavelier was Robert Le Ber's wife and the mother of the family at Pîtres, near Rouen in Normandy, northern France, associated with Jacques and Marie Le Ber; the family reconstruction also includes François as her son by deduction. Faillon's account places the parents in France after the sons' departure for Ville-Marie, the early French settlement that became Montréal in present-day Québec, Canada.

Her daughter Marie followed a different path from her brothers. After going to Canada, she entered the Ursuline novitiate in 1668 and made her profession on October 15, 1670, taking the religious name Marie de l'Annonciation. She later held responsibilities for provisions and linen within the community.
