The life of Mathieu Choret (elder)
Biography
The elder Mathieu Choret and Jeanne Serre were the parents of the younger Mathieu associated with La Rochelle, on France’s Atlantic coast. Fichier Origine reports the father's burial at Notre-Dame-de-Cougnes on October 11, 1636.
His son's first Canadian mention is placed in 1645, when the younger man worked as a servant of the Jesuits. Two years later, that son married Sébastienne Veillon at La Rochelle.
