Louis Comfort Tiffany

1848 — 1933

Their story

Louis Comfort Tiffany was born in New York City in 1848, the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany. He became a designer of stained glass and decorative objects, using glass in both buildings and household objects.[1,3]

His Favrile art glass explored color, surface and form. A vase made around 1912, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, used powdered glass and metallic fumes to create an iridescent surface recalling ancient glass. Tiffany displayed such work at Laurelton Hall, his estate on Long Island.[3]

In 1902 he became design director of Tiffany & Co., the jewelry and silverware business founded by his father. He died in 1933.[1,4]
