The life of Edmund H. Walker

Biography

Edmund Hixon Walker followed his father into Walker Electric. The directory research identifies him as a salesman in 1950 and a vice-president in 1960. Those two entries give his career a clearer outline than the company name alone: he moved from selling its products to a position in its management. His father, Hugh Albert Walker, had founded the business in 1919, when Edmund was a small child.

Edmund was born on June 27, 1916, the son of Hugh and Cynthia Alice Hixon Walker. His first marriage was to Marjorie Moulton Wicks. A memorial account cites their marriage in Los Angeles, California, on February 7, 1943 and a North Carolina birth record for their daughter Cynthia Elizabeth in 1945. Their son Douglas was born in 1947. These references place the young family well beyond the Rhode Island setting of the Walker business.

Edmund later married Florence A. Harvey, known in the family as Floss. They lived in Cumberland, in northern Rhode Island near the Massachusetts border. Family information records no children from this marriage.

He died on January 30, 1988, aged seventy-one, and was buried in the Carpenter Burial Ground at North Attleborough, Massachusetts. The cemetery entry identifies his grave in Section 2, Row 2, Plot 5.

His sister Nancy Alberta Walker Carpenter’s obituary independently supplies another reference to their parents, Hugh Albert and Cynthia Hixon Walker.
