The life of Louise-Amable Poissant
Biography
Louise-Amable Poissant was born on June 12, 1783 at La Prairie, across the St. Lawrence from Montréal in Québec, Canada, the daughter of Pierre Poissant and Véronique Bouchard. Her adult life joined two families whose names appear in several forms in later records. On February 22, 1813 she married Barthélemy Charest, also found as Jarret or Jarret-Beauregard, at La Prairie. She was twenty-nine and he was twenty-two.
Their daughter Catherine was born at Saint-Philippe in 1816. Catherine's later marriage to Jude Bourassa took place in Indiana, in the American Midwest, in 1833, extending the family's documented connections beyond Québec. The Citizen Potawatomi Nation's account of the Bourassa family independently identifies Jude's wife as Marie Catherine Charet.
Louise-Amable’s later movements and death date are unknown.
