The life of Lydia Marble Russell
Biography
Lydia Marble was born at Ashburnham, in northern Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border, on February 8, 1792. Family records identify her as a daughter of Jabez Marble and Mary Salter and name her twin sister as Louisa or Lois.
She married John Russell and raised children in the family at nearby Townsend described in Crane’s Worcester County history. Their son Andrew was born in 1816. John’s farming and transport work took him between Townsend and Boston; Lydia’s own occupation is not recorded.
John died in 1840. Lydia survived him for nearly thirty-seven years, dying at Leominster, Massachusetts, on June 23, 1877. Her memorial gives her age as eighty-five years, four months, and fifteen days and places her burial at Howard Street Cemetery in Northborough, east of Worcester in Massachusetts.
