The life of Olivia Primrose Hascall Doane
Biography
Olivia Primrose Hascall was born at Thompson, in northeastern Connecticut, on February 14, 1796, a daughter of David Hascall and Martha Nichols. She married Joel Doane, who had come to Thompson after a childhood on Cape Cod, the peninsula on the Massachusetts coast, and in inland Massachusetts.
Their family grew over nearly two decades. Harvey Nichols was born in 1816, followed by Maria, Lewis Branch, Frances Martha, Almira and John Wesley. The children did not all survive their parents: Harvey died at seventeen in 1834, Almira in 1850 and Lewis in 1854. Olivia lived through these losses and into her youngest son's adult years.
Olivia died on June 9, 1874 and was buried in West Thompson Cemetery. The Connecticut death-index abstract gives her age as seventy-eight, consistent with the 1796 birth year. Joel survived her until 1883.
