In 1856, William King sailed for New South Wales aboard the Sultana with his wife, Edith Maria Dodkin, and their infant son George. The passenger transcription describes him as a farm labourer, aged twenty-one, from Langley, Essex, and names his parents as Joseph and Mary. William and Edith Maria had married at Langley on 7 April 1855. The official New South Wales index dates the ship’s arrival at Sydney to 27 June 1856; the compiled family account gives 28 June.
