The life of René Hequet

Text size

Biography

René Hequet was still a small child when his family left France for the United States. Born in France on July 21, 1909, he was the son of Jules Hequet and Leontine Vertefoix. A family contribution places his arrival with his mother and younger brother Robert at about 1913. His later home was Kankakee, in northeastern Illinois south of Chicago, where he worked for Roper Stove.

Family responsibility became a particularly important part of René’s adult life. After the deaths of his parents, he and his wife Dorine Regnier helped bring up his much younger brother Charles. Charles’s daughter later recalled that her father had been raised in their Kankakee household.

René and Dorine’s children were Kenneth and Janice. The family contribution remembers René as retired from Roper Stove. He died in June 1978, aged sixty-eight.

The burial listing places René Hequet at Kankakee Memorial Gardens and Chapel Mausoleum, Kankakee, Kankakee County, Illinois, United States.
