01BIOGRAPHY

Life in context.

37. Daniel Bourassa II (1780–1840)
Citizen Potawatomi historical material identifies Daniel as a son of Daniel Bourassa I and Marguerite Bertrand. He worked as an agent in the fur-trade world associated with John Jacob Astor’s American Fur Company and married Theotis Pisange in 1808. The couple raised a large family near the Yellow River. In 1838 they were forced west on the Potawatomi Trail of Death; CPN material says Daniel was first to sign the removal muster roll. He died at Sugar Creek in 1840.
Evidence status. Direct working ancestor supported by CPN historical sources.
Citizen Potawatomi Nation roll-line image supplied by the family. This is an official-record image, not a portrait.
