01BIOGRAPHY
Life in context.
22. Francis Wood Carpenter (1831–1922)
Carpenter became a leading figure in Providence business. He headed Congdon & Carpenter, served as president of the American National Bank of Providence, and held leadership or directorship roles in manufacturing, banking, insurance and related companies. Family memory that his name appeared on a ten-dollar bank note proved substantially correct: banking records identify him as a national-bank president and note signer. The exact surviving family note should still be photographed for the archive.
Evidence status. Direct relationship strongly supported.
