The life of Melina Caisse

Biography

Melina Caisse was a daughter of François Xavier Caisse and Marie Regnier. She gave St Mary, Illinois, as both her birthplace and residence when she married Hervey Caillouette there on April 2, 1893. The marriage return describes this as her first marriage and says she would be nineteen at her next birthday. Frank Case and Agnes Regnier witnessed the ceremony.

Her son Virgil was born in Beaverville on September 4, 1899. His delayed birth registration names Melina as his mother, as do its summaries of a St Mary's Church certificate and an affidavit from his sister Irene. The records preserve several spellings of Melina's name, including Malina Caise on the marriage license.
