The life of Sarah Jane Robinson

Biography

Sarah Jane Robinson helped establish industrial schools in County Kerry, in southwestern Ireland, with her husband, the Presbyterian missionary Edward Marcus Dill. The pupils' work was sold to supporters in Ireland and England. The Dictionary of Irish Biography credits both Sarah and Edward with establishing the schools.

She came from Coagh, County Tyrone, now in Northern Ireland, where Edward served as a minister, and they married on August 9, 1837. His subsequent work took him to Cork in southern Ireland and then into the Presbyterian Home Mission. The schools formed part of that Protestant missionary undertaking.

A family record derived from Burke's Irish Family Records gives Sarah's death as February 17, 1878.
