The life of Rebecca Duncan Mitchell
Biography
Rebecca Duncan was the youngest daughter of David Duncan of Carrickafaden, in the parish of Donagh, County Donegal, in northwestern Ireland, according to the announcement of her marriage to Robert Mitchell on July 18, 1836. The notice placed Robert at Kindraghead in neighbouring Culdaff parish.
Rebecca died at Moville on December 25, 1880. Her death register describes her as married, aged 76, and the wife of a gentleman. Robert Mitchell of Moville supplied the information. Her recorded age suggests a birth around 1804.
She is probably the mother of Mary Mitchell, later Mary Macky, through the family’s marriage and Moville connections.
