Karima Carpenter Hamamsy

Biography

Karima Carpenter Hamamsy's path into medicine began in the humanities. Originally from New York City, she studied comparative literature at Dartmouth College, then earned a master's degree in predictive analytics at Northwestern University. Medical school at the University of Colorado followed, and she completed her internal-medicine residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, in Washington State in the northwestern United States.

In 2024, she returned to Colorado to join Kaiser Permanente. In her own account of her practice, she emphasizes sustained relationships with patients and helping them take an active part in their health. Prevention and changes that patients can maintain in daily life are central to the approach she describes.

Her interests outside medicine also connect her to Colorado. She identifies trail running and skiing as favourite ways to spend time in the mountains and describes herself as a Denver Nuggets supporter.

Karima is the daughter of Polly Jane Carpenter and Mahmoud El Hamamsy, and the sister of Tymor Carpenter Hamamsy.
