Biography

The elder Zachariah Carpenter was a farmer at Rehoboth, in what is now southeastern Massachusetts, born on October 18, 1706. He married Margaret Child on November 27, 1728. The published Carpenter genealogy follows their children from Patience in 1729 through Benjamin in 1751, a span of more than twenty years.

An early son named Zachariah, born in 1730, died in May 1733. The name was given again to the son born in February 1734/35, who later married Hannah Carpenter. The family also included Keziah, Phanuel, Martha, Caleb, Simeon, Esther, Richard and Grace.

By 1760 the younger Zachariah was establishing a household of his own. The elder man remained associated with Rehoboth, where he died on July 25, 1765.
