The life of Oliver Titcomb
Biography
Oliver Titcomb established a substantial family home at Amesbury, in northeastern Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border. The nineteenth-century Titcomb history identifies him as a son of Captain Joseph Titcomb and Ann Smith, born on July 27, 1729. About 1752 he married Anna Osgood.
Their household included Molly, Lois, Rhoda, Moses, Betsey, Jonathan, Sarah, Ichabod and Tabitha. The same account records the deaths of an earlier Rhoda and an earlier Sarah, whose names were subsequently used again. Amesbury's published birth records independently name Oliver and Anna as the parents of Jonathan in 1763, Sarah in 1766, Ichabod in 1769 and Tabetha in 1772.
Oliver built a house on School Street at Amesbury Mills. Writing in 1882, Sarah Elizabeth Titcomb described the old mansion as still standing.
