The life of Keziah Colby

Text size

Biography

Keziah Colby was born at Amesbury, in northeastern Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border, on May 11, 1696, a daughter of Samuel Colby and his wife Dorothy. She married David Currier on December 11, 1718 and raised a family that included Dorothy, later the wife of Tristram Barnard.

David died while their children were still young. His father Richard's will, written in 1744, identified the children of his deceased son David and provided each with ten shillings in old-tenor currency. It treated those bequests, together with what David had already received, as the family's portion of Richard's estate. Keziah's children thus remained explicitly connected with their father's family after his death.

Keziah later married Jacob Bagley. Hoyt's family history records the second marriage and places her death on November 3, 1754. Her adult life encompassed two marriages and the re-establishment of her household after David's death.
