Antoine Hecquet

Biography

Antoine Hecquet was born about 1580 into the Abbeville household of the rope-maker Antoine Pierre Hecquet and Charlotte Lenglets. Abbeville lies in Picardy in northern France. He was still young when his father died in 1596. As an adult he appears as a merchant, continuing the family's connection with the town's commercial life.

On April 17, 1606 he married Marie Anne Monchaux, also recorded as Marie Monchaux. Their marriage and later notarial references place the household in Abbeville over several decades. Family historians consider it likely that Antoine continued his father's rope business, but the merchant designation is firmer than the proposed succession.

Among their sons were Antoine, born in 1615, and Jacques. Marie Anne made her will in April 1649; her exact death date is uncertain. The family chronology places Antoine’s death after April 1649.
