The life of Daniel Brown
Biography
Daniel Brown and Frances Watson formed a household in Rhode Island, on the Atlantic coast of New England, in the early eighteenth century. Family compilations identify Daniel as a son of Jeremiah Brown and place his birth in 1682. His marriage to Frances connected the Browns to the Watson and Gardiner families of the Narragansett region of southern Rhode Island.
Their recorded children were Elizabeth, Mary, Benjamin, Daniel, Elisha, Dorcas and John, born from 1705 through 1714. This sequence gives a picture of a growing household over roughly a decade, with the younger Daniel carrying his father’s name and Dorcas carrying the name associated with her mother’s family.
The Gardiner genealogy places Daniel’s death in 1726. Frances survived him. His younger children were still growing up when the household lost its father.
