The life of Lois Chidsey

Text size

Biography

Lois Chidsey was born at North Guilford, the inland northern part of Guilford in southern Connecticut, on July 3, 1741, a daughter of Joseph Chidsey and Bathsheba Baldwin. She married John Bartlett on July 2, 1760, the day before her nineteenth birthday.

Their family suffered the loss of a young son, Nathanael, in August 1769. His memorial records that he was four years and three months old. Less than two years later, on March 31, 1771, Lois and John were admitted together to full communion in the church.

John died in 1801. Lois survived him into 1820, living for about six decades after their marriage. Her story is preserved in the town's birth records, the church's membership and death entries, and the memorial of the child they lost.

The burial listing associates Lois Chidsey with Old North Cemetery, Guilford, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States.
