The life of Alice Grundy
Biography
Alice Grundy married Robert Leete at Great Eversden, in Cambridgeshire, England, near Cambridge, on April 6, 1573. Their household grew over the following twelve years. The parish records list seven children: Symeon, Judith, Deborah, Ruth, Mordechai, Susanna, and Phebe. Phebe, the youngest, was baptized in December 1585.
When Robert died in 1597 or early 1598, he left no will. Alice was granted administration of his estate on February 17, 1598. That appointment gave her a recorded role in settling the affairs of a household whose property connections extended through the Eversden villages.
Alice's life is anchored by these two events: the marriage that established the household in 1573 and the responsibility she assumed as its surviving widow nearly twenty-five years later.
