The life of Sarah Eastow Hobbs

Text size

Biography

Sarah Eastow's marriage to Morris Hobbs joined the Hobbs family to an established household at Hampton, on the coast of present-day New Hampshire. Her father was William Eastow, and Sarah and Morris lived with him on his homestead. That place remained central to the family: their son Morris later made his home on the Eastow lot.

Hampton's published genealogy records ten children in Sarah and Morris's family, with births extending from the early 1640s through 1664. Their daughters married into the Drake, Cass, Tuck, Wedgwood, and Dow families, while sons established households both in Hampton and elsewhere. Sarah's own connection to the Eastow property helps explain the family's continuity in one place across generations.

Her birth is estimated around 1624. Her place in the Eastow household links the early history of that property with the large Hobbs family established there.

Sarah’s surname also appears as Easton in the family record.
