The life of Sabina Marston

Text size

Biography

Sabina was William Marston's later wife and the mother of Tryphena, born on December 28, 1663. When William made his will in June 1672, their daughter was eight. He left small specified sums to his older children and gave the remainder of his estate to Tryphena. Sabina was named sole executrix.

William died on June 30, five days after signing the will. Sabina's appointment gave her responsibility for carrying out its terms, including the inheritance intended for her young daughter.

On July 23, 1673 she married John Redman, a blacksmith at Hampton, on the coast of present-day New Hampshire, whose house and shop stood in the eastern part of town. The Hampton history records her death on November 10, 1689. Her surviving story thus includes motherhood, estate administration, and a second marriage that continued her life within the same community.

Sabina’s maiden surname remains unknown.
