The life of Benjamin Lamprey
Biography
Benjamin Lamprey was born in Hampton, on the coast of present-day New Hampshire, on September 28, 1661, soon after his parents, Henry and Julien Lamprey, had moved there from Boston, Massachusetts. His childhood included the death of his sister Mary in 1663 and his mother's death in 1670.
On November 10, 1687 he married Jane Batchelder. The Lamprey household’s recorded births extend over more than twenty years: the family history records twelve children, beginning with Benjamin in 1688 and ending with Morris in 1711. The names later spread through several connected Hampton households. Elizabeth married Jonathan Moulton, Sarah married Robert Moulton, and Hannah married John Moulton.
Benjamin also outlived his son Daniel, who died in April 1718. The Hampton history records a later marriage to a woman named Mary, although the chronology separating the two marriages remains uncertain. He died in January 1752 at about ninety, having lived long enough to see children born in his seventeenth-century household establish families well into the eighteenth.
