The life of Abigail Winter Russell
Biography
Abigail Winter was born in 1680 and married David Russell. Their household was established first in Lexington, then in Concord, and later in Littleton, all northwest of Boston in Massachusetts. Lexington records name David and Abigail as the parents of John Russell, later known as John Russell Sr., born in 1702. The family's successive locations place Abigail within the movement of a growing household into Littleton in the early eighteenth century.
Abigail also appears by name in a transaction concerning the family's land. A Middlesex deed abstract dated December 2, 1740 identifies her as David's wife in their conveyance to Nathaniel Russell. The property comprised two Littleton parcels, one of twelve acres and the other of twenty, for a stated consideration of forty pounds.
That record gives Abigail a presence beyond the births of her children. She was named in the legal arrangements by which the household's property passed to another Russell. David died by 1744.
