Elizabeth [surname unknown] Felt

Biography

Elizabeth’s family can be followed through the baptisms of children in Salem and Rowley, both in northeastern Massachusetts. She was the wife of Samuel Felt, a tailor who maintained a small house and shop in Salem before settling in the Rowley and Byfield area. Their daughter Elizabeth was baptized at Salem in June 1696; later children appear in the Rowley register.

Samuel died while Elizabeth was still living. The Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire identifies his widow as the Elizabeth Felt who married Benjamin Plummer on September 13, 1715.

Benjamin’s will of December 17, 1722 named his wife Elizabeth alongside children of his earlier family. It establishes her presence in that household seven years after the marriage. Her own ancestry and death date remain uncertain, but the sequence of records places her first in the Felt family and then in the Plummer household in the same wider community.

The survival of her married names is essential to following that course. Elizabeth Felt and Elizabeth Plummer are presented in the cited family works as successive identities of the same widow, while her maiden surname has not been established.
