The life of Mary Fowler Noyes
Biography
Mary Fowler was born on March 22, 1744 in the family chronology and is identified in the accepted family line as a daughter of Samuel Fowler. She married John Noyes of Bow, just south of Concord in New Hampshire. The published Noyes genealogy records ten children in their household, among them Isaac Chamberlain Noyes, born in November 1781.
The children’s names show a family extending well beyond a single surviving line: Abigail, John, Sarah, Abner, Jacob, Nancy, Isaac, Mary, George and Martha. Their household linked the older Bow family with children who would establish homes elsewhere, including Isaac’s family at Temple, in western Maine near Farmington.
Her later chronology is more definite. John died on October 7, 1825, and Mary died on January 14, 1826, aged eighty-one. Her widowhood therefore lasted only a little over three months. The records preserve a long married life and a large family, followed by the deaths of both parents between autumn and the following January.
