Their story

On28June1692, James Howe Sr. submitted a statement defending his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Howe during the Salem witchcraft prosecutions. He described her long record of care within the family, including her help to his son after he lost his sight, and urged the authorities to distinguish prejudice from conscience. His statement preserves a direct act of family advocacy in the surviving court record.
