The life of Abigail Littlefield Eaton
Biography
Abigail Littlefield Eaton appears by name and age in her husband’s pension proceedings of July 1820. She was sixty and living at Wells, on the coast of southern Maine, with William Eaton, a former Revolutionary sergeant. Three adult children were in the household: Lydia, thirty-three; Andrew, twenty-two; and Nancy, eighteen.
Those ages describe a family well beyond its child-rearing years, with children born over a substantial span still living with their parents.
The Eaton genealogy independently names William’s wife as Abigail Littlefield and records another son, Rufus. Read together, the genealogy and pension abstract recover both her maiden name and part of her family circle. Her reported age in 1820 suggests birth around 1760, but it does not establish an exact birthday.
The family's reconstruction also connects the couple to Jeremiah Eaton; that relationship is probable, separate from the children named in the sources above. Abigail’s marriage date, parents and death have not yet been securely established.
