The life of Marinda Wight
Biography
Marinda Wight was born on March 26, 1799. The Wight genealogy identifies her as a daughter of David Wight and Susanna Harding. She married Tilly Woodward of Sturbridge, in southern Massachusetts near the Connecticut border, on February 4, 1816, shortly before her seventeenth birthday.
The genealogy lists fourteen children, beginning with Caroline in 1816 and ending with Lorenzo in 1845. It also records losses within that long period of childrearing. Their first Calvin died in 1824, their first Samuel in 1838, and their daughter Marinda in 1854. Julia, born in 1819, married Calvin G. Chamberlain.
Marinda’s children established households in several states, while the genealogy continued to associate her with Sturbridge. Her cemetery memorial gives her death year as 1891, more than twenty years after Tilly’s death.
Her name also appears as Merenda and Marindia in the family material.
