The life of Michel Jarret

Text size

Biography

Michel Jarret appears as Michel Jacquemin dit Jarret in Denis Beauregard’s reconstruction of the French family. The study identifies him as Jean’s father and places the wider family at the Rual near Chapeaucornu and Vignieu, in the present-day Isère department of southeastern France. Its account follows land and names across generations rather than beginning with the family’s Canadian settlement.

For Michel himself, the surviving outline is narrow. Beauregard considers him probably dead before 1605. The reconstruction names Benoît as his father but does not name Michel’s wife.
