The life of Francois Pelletier
Biography
François Pelletier and Simonne Pichereau's family is traced through the registers of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul at Gallardon, near Chartres in north-central France. The published reconstruction lists baptisms stretching from 1592 to 1610. Among their children was Nicolas, baptized in June 1596, who later became a carpenter in New France.
François did not live to see that Canadian chapter. An account of Nicolas's apprenticeship describes him as already deceased when Simonne arranged the contract in February 1612. Their son was fifteen, and the agreement placed him with the master carpenter Michel Delaval.
The baptismal sequence and apprenticeship together show a household changing over nearly twenty years: a growing family, the father's death, and a son beginning formal training under another man. François's own trade is not established by those records.
