The life of Marie Le Villain

Text size

Biography

Marie Le Villain came from a family in Rouen, on the Seine River in Normandy, northern France: her parents were Michel Le Villain and Marguerite, whose surname appears as Traboullet in the origin dossier and Trabouillard in another compilation. The dossier connects her father with Saint-Godard and her mother with Saint-Denis, giving the family a setting within the city's parishes.

Marie married Henri Le Barbier in 1601. Their daughter, also Marie, was baptized in Rouen in 1619 and subsequently married Nicolas Marsolet. The younger Marie's move to New France in 1637 is documented in her origin dossier.

Mother and daughter belong to different parts of that history. The elder Marie is known through her French household and its marriage arrangements.
