The life of Pierre Mallet
Biography
Pierre Mallet signed his name as P. Malet in a notarial act of December 3, 1610. The document identifies him as a laboureur living at Launay in the parish then written Courgeoust, now Courgeoût, in the Perche countryside of northern France, near Mortagne-au-Perche. It gives him a place, an occupation, and a surviving form of his signature.
His wife, Jacqueline Liger, had previously been married to Mathry Noé. Pierre and Jacqueline were married before 1604 and had three known children: Perrine, Liénarde, and Étienne. The two younger children's baptisms place the household at Courgeoût in 1609 and 1613.
Perrine's later marriage to Marin Boucher established the family's Canadian connection. Her 1660 confirmation record in Québec named both parents and their home parish. Pierre's own documented life, however, belongs to France.
A proposed father, Jean Mallet, remains a genealogical inference. Pierre’s death date is unknown.
