The life of Jacqueline Liger
Biography
Jacqueline Liger was already a widow before she married Pierre Mallet. Her first husband, Mathry Noé, was a master linen weaver at Launay in the parish of Courgeoût, in the Perche countryside of northern France, near Mortagne-au-Perche. Their children included Barbe and Jean. After Mathry's burial in February 1601, Jacqueline appeared in several notarial acts during the following year.
Her second marriage created the family through which she appears in Canadian genealogy. Jacqueline and Pierre had three known children: Perrine, Liénarde, and Étienne. Liénarde was baptized at Courgeoût in September 1609 and Étienne in July 1613.
Perrine later married Marin Boucher and settled in New France. In 1660, a Québec confirmation record still identified her as the daughter of Pierre Mallet and Jacqueline Liger from Courgeoût. Jacqueline’s own recorded life was in France.
The surviving evidence does not establish a dependable birth or death date for her.
