The life of Mathurin Lemire
Biography
Mathurin Lemire and Jeanne Vannier raised a family in the Saint-Vivien parish of Rouen, on the Seine River in Normandy, northern France. Michel Lemire's family dictionary lists three children baptized there: Jeanne in 1620, Catherine in 1623, and Jean in 1625. It also identifies a sister of Mathurin named Catherine Le Mire.
Jean's baptism survives in reproduction. The entry dated June 4, 1625 names Mathurin and Jeanne as his parents, giving the family a direct foothold in the parish register.
Jean later worked as a mill carpenter in New France and married Louise Marsolet at Québec in October 1653.
