The life of Genevieve Le Parmentier

Text size

Biography

In March 1636, Geneviève Le Parmentier, widow of Guillaume Chaussier, a master cook in Paris, France, entered a legal settlement with surgeon Charles Le Rognon. The published abstract records his undertaking to support and raise a child, and a payment of 150 livres: half received, half promised within eight months. Geneviève said she could not sign.

Thirty years later, another agreement names her as Charles’s wife. It concerned the estate of her deceased daughter Thomasse Chaussée and Thomasse’s husband, the potter Antoine Farcy. These two acts place Geneviève in negotiations about a child’s support and a daughter’s inheritance.
